# Epistemic Inversion: How the Bible Broke Humanity's Brain

Picture this scenario:

> A man hears a voice in his head.

> The voice tells him to cut off part of his own genitals.

> He does it.

> The voice tells him to do the same to his infant son.

> He does that too.

> Years later, the voice tells him to take that son up a mountain, tie him down, and cut his throat.

> He says yes to all of it.

Read that back and tell me, using nothing but your own eyes and your own reasoning, what you conclude about this man. 

You know the answer. Every human being knows it. When a voice in your head instructs you to kill a child, ***the correct answer is NO!***

Nearly 4 billion people think this man wasn't insane.

That is not a hard problem. Yet, half the planet thinks these two men are the model of righteousness.

But why? How have so many people gotten it wrong? Why does the wrong answer form the foundation of our civilization's moral system?

Because of a process I call ***epistemic inversion.***

## The original epistemology

***Epistemology*** (for those who don't know the term) is simply the method by which you determine what's true. It's the science of sciences, the study of studying. It underpins every other truth-seeking endeavor, because it's the process of ***how to find*** truth.

For most of human history, it ran in only one direction: 

1. Observe things
2. Believe what you observe
3. Connect observations to notice patterns
4. Use logic to reason out the implications of the patterns you observe.

Example:

1. A voice in my head is telling me to kill my son.
2. Killing my son would be bad.
3. Therefore, the voice is telling me to do a bad thing.
4. Therefore, the entity behind the voice is not good, and certainly isn't God.

This is the easy and obvious conclusion reached by any rational actor in the universe.

But the Bible changed all that. Ever since humanity got that book, and the Abraham story within it, our relationship to truth and epistemology changed, from this normal sane system, into something... else.

Now, because of the Bible, we have this new system:

1. Start with a big, old book.
2. Decide that everything in the book is true.
3. When ***Reality*** contradicts the book, keep believing the book, and discard reality.
4. When someone objects to this, cut off communication with them and/or hurt so they stop talking.

This is the most destructive idea our species has ever produced... and it **did not stay confined to the Bible.** When the Bible became the central text of our civilization, it trained us to approach truth in this inverted manner; and once trained in it, we applied it to every other area of life.

## The structure outlives the content

Delete God and you do not delete the problem, because what transmitted was never a belief. It was an architecture. Once the Bible created the cognitive structure of epistemic inversion, ***any other content*** can now fill that structure. The content is interchangeable.

Any time you have a person saying:

> "I believe what I believe, and I don't care what counter-evidence you show me; I'm gonna keep believing what I believe, no matter what!"

...you have epistemic inversion. And the Bible is the source of it.

"[Enlightenment" philosophies of history](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl%5FL%C3%B6with?ref=the-effing-truth.com) — Vico through Marx — have been read as secularized Christian eschatology: same structure, providence and a determined ending, with History swapped in for God. [The same lineage runs](https://archive.org/details/pursuitofmillenn0000unse) from medieval millenarian sects straight into modern totalitarian movements. Lenin, Stalin, and Mao didn't invent a new shape of thought. They inherited the Bible's and refilled it.

Watch it run with God removed entirely. When [Trofim Lysenko](https://www.mun.ca/biology/scarr/Lysenkoism%5Fabstract.html?ref=the-effing-truth.com) claimed acquired traits pass to offspring, with no controlled data to support it, the Communist Party loved this because it implied [human nature was as malleable](https://theconversation.com/the-tragic-story-of-soviet-genetics-shows-the-folly-of-political-meddling-in-science-72580?ref=the-effing-truth.com) as a crop. Doctrine first, biology ordered to comply. Stalin put him in charge of Soviet biology in 1948; and pretty soon, the field of genetics was denounced, thousands of biologists were [dismissed or imprisoned](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysenkoism?ref=the-effing-truth.com), and Nikolai Vavilov — the world's foremost plant geneticist and Lysenko's own mentor — was [starved to death](https://artoftruth.org/lysenkoism-how-soviet-ideology-starved-science-and-then-starved-millions/?ref=the-effing-truth.com) in prison in 1943\. And this took place in a regime that had already demolished the churches and recognized no God!

And when this insanity reached China and helped starve millions through epic idiocy in the Great Leap Forward ("Hey, let's exterminate the sparrows that prey on our crop pests, and melt down all of our farm implements into pig iron - this should be fine"), it arrived by import: the Chinese Communist Party was founded in Shanghai's French Concession in 1921, convened at the urging of two [Comintern delegates](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st%5FNational%5FCongress%5Fof%5Fthe%5FChinese%5FCommunist%5FParty?ref=the-effing-truth.com) from Europe, and then built up from its infancy by western, largely Jewish, Bolshevist agents. And that's not an antisemitic trope; it's [published research from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.](https://cris.huji.ac.il/en/publications/combining-contradictions-jewish-contributions-to-the-chinese-revo/?ref=the-effing-truth.com) China is an ancient civilization, and there is no documented cases of it doing anything this crazy, until Abrahamic westerners infiltrated its government and brought their epistemic inversion with them.

Nor is this pattern confined to state governments. In 1965, a botched circumcision left a Winnipeg infant without a penis. Sexologist and pervert John Money, seeing a test case for pure nurture, had the boy castrated and raised as a girl, then published it as ["proof"](https://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/biblio/articles/2005to2009/2006-mythbuster.html?ref=the-effing-truth.com) that "gender identity" is learned — cited for thirty years across psychiatry and gender studies, and used to [justify surgery on other children.](https://openoregon.pressbooks.pub/socgender/chapter/4-1-chapter-overview-and-learning-objectives/?ref=the-effing-truth.com) But it was false. David Reimer rejected the assigned sex at puberty, reverted, and [the 1997 clinical follow-up documented the failure plainly](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9080940/?ref=the-effing-truth.com). And he ended up [taking his own life.](https://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/12/us/david-reimer-38-subject-of-the-john-joan-case.html?ref=the-effing-truth.com) The theory was tested, the test failed, the failure was taught as success for three decades, and when the truth surfaced, the framework didn't fall. That's a man walking a child up a mountain because the authority said so, in a lab coat instead of robes.

Even to this day, the "transgender" ideology (i.e. that biological sex and gender are two different things) rests largely on this debunked research. And the delusion doesn't remain confined to academia; it percolates down from those ivory towers into the granular cognition of each "trans" individual. It's how they maintain the delusion. Instead of starting with a book (e.g. the Bible) and backwards-rationalizing all of Reality to conform to the book, the "trans" individual starts with the belief "I am a woman", and then retcons Reality to conform to that belief. It goes like this:

1. I am a woman.
2. I look down, and see a penis between my legs.
3. Therefore, **women can and do have penises.**
4. If someone points out the flaw in this logic, they are a ***transphobe,*** which is a kind of bigot, adjacent to a Nazi, and I will never talk to Nazis, and I will support efforts to censor the internet to make sure they can't talk to anyone else.

Replace "Nazi" with "heretic", and you have the medieval Church and its fanaticism. Different content - same structure. Different user, same operating system. And the Bible installed it.

And you can repeat this pattern with every other issue plaguing humanity:

\-The narrative of Covid never made sense, and its policies were clearly unnecessary and extremely destructive - but the believers didn't care, no matter how much logic and reason and evidence, or even peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, we showed them. Many still don't, even now. Even after watching Anthony Fauci plead the 5th Amendment to avoid answering what color tie he was wearing, they still cling to the belief that the covid years were guided by honest actors and sane policymaking.

\-Israel has obliterated an entire city, and yet there are people who can look at photos of rubble all the way to the horizon, and conclude that these are "surgical strikes" by a people "just defending themselves." Even after every Israeli leader - from President to PM to cabinet ministers to army chiefs to Knesset leaders to party leaders to ambassadors to talk show hosts to mayors - everyone, down to Kibbutz Dogcatcher - has gotten on stage and stood behind a podium and proudly, unabashedly, gleefully declared their intention to commit war crimes and genocide, while looking directly into the camera... there are people who still don't believe them.

What explains this?

Epistemic inversion.

They start with the belief that *Israel Is Good™,* or *Trust The Science™,* and if any evidence contradicts that, they ignore it.

And if a person - like a friend or family member - tries to show them, they cut off communication with that person.

And the structure for all of this comes to us from the Bible.

## Not every infallible text does this. 

Hindu Mīmāṃsā treats the Vedas as authorless and inerrant, a claim *stronger* than the Bible's, yet nobody is shutting down paleontology departments or bombing refugee camps in its name, because the Vedas are read as ritual instruction, not as checkable claims about history and biology ([Purva Mīmāṃsā](https://dumkalcollege.in/uploads/notice/dept%5Festore%5F06-05-2023%5F1683349459359.pdf?ref=the-effing-truth.com)). The danger isn't reverence for a book. It's an unfalsifiable authority making checkable claims, with a worked example showing you to obey it over your own eyes.

## The first draft was Egyptian, and it died

Judaism is not the first religious system to repress thought. Around 1353 BCE, Pharaoh Akhenaten abolished Egypt's gods for one — the Aten — closed the temples, defunded the priesthoods, sent crews to chisel rival gods' names off monuments, and built a new capital on land no other god had claimed ([Britannica](https://www.britannica.com/biography/Akhenaten/Religion-of-the-Aton?ref=the-effing-truth.com), [ARCE](https://arce.org/resource/akhenaten-mysteries-religious-revolution/?ref=the-effing-truth.com)). Exclusive truth, iconoclasm, erasure of the past — every hallmark, with no scripture required.

But when he died, so did his system. His name was struck from the king lists; later Egyptians called him the criminal of Akhetaten ([Smithsonian](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/rebellious-son-174656174/?ref=the-effing-truth.com)). So much for that.

Akhenaten had everything: throne, treasury, army, masons, a purpose-built capital, absolute power over a unified state. And he welded his revolution to that state. When the state's next occupant wanted it gone, it was gone in a generation Akhenaten invented the disease, but he was a dead end.

The disease gained a long-term foothold in human consciousness when it was committed to *text.* Because books survive generations. They survive centuries. And their wording stays exactly the same. The Bible is a technology for transmitting epistemic inversion, through the ages, in a solid and reinforceable form.

## Nobody made Abraham do it. Somebody wrote it.

Secular textual scholarship places the Abraham-and-Isaac story in the exilic period and its aftermath — the sixth through fourth centuries BCE — once [the archaeological case for a historical Abraham fell apart](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The%5FHistoricity%5Fof%5Fthe%5FPatriarchal%5FNarratives?ref=the-effing-truth.com) and [the patriarchal material was traced to the literary imagination of exilic scribes](http://ndl.ethernet.edu.et/bitstream/123456789/46406/1/3293.pdf?ref=the-effing-truth.com) rather than to Bronze Age memory. That's roughly a thousand years after the setting the story claims for itself. Mainstream scholarship now dates the finished Torah to the Persian period, [450–350 BCE](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composition%5Fof%5Fthe%5FTorah?ref=the-effing-truth.com), with [Genesis 22 itself placed as late as 400–250 BCE](https://scielo.org.za/pdf/hts/v64n2/v64n2a11.pdf?ref=the-effing-truth.com) by some analyses.

That reframes everything. A Bronze Age story could be filed as barbarism people grew out of. This isn't that. It's a composition by literate scribes, centuries after the setting it claims, for an audience they meant to instruct. Nobody made Abraham walk his son up that mountain. Somebody wrote it that way on purpose — and then made him the founding father of the nation. That's not a fossil. It's a design document.

## Even the victim caught it

One more thing the text won't let you forget. Isaac was not a baby on that mountain. He carries the wood for the fire himself — old enough to notice there's no animal for the offering, old enough to ask his father where it is. Rabbinic and Second Temple sources put his age anywhere from a young man to thirty-seven ([Biblical Archaeology Society](https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-topics/bible-interpretation/binding-sacrifice-isaac/?ref=the-effing-truth.com), [Jewish Virtual Library](https://jewishvirtuallibrary.org/akedah?ref=the-effing-truth.com), [Aish](https://aish.com/isaacs-age-at-the-binding-akeidah/?ref=the-effing-truth.com)). He could have run. An old man with a knife cannot bind a grown son who doesn't want to be bound. He didn't run. And in the midrashic expansion of the scene, he does something worse: he asks his father to tie him tighter, so he won't flinch at the last second and spoil the offering.

That's the tell. This was never one deranged man overpowering a helpless child. The disease jumped hosts mid-story. The victim caught it too, and used his own hands to help optimize his execution. That is how virulent epistemic inversion is: it doesn't need force. Give it enough time with an authority nobody's allowed to question, and it will recruit the person being sacrificed into wanting it done correctly.

## The program runs on any hardware

So here is the diagnosis, and I want it stated without any escape hatches.

The program will run on any hardware. It ran in Stalin's Russia with the churches demolished. It ran at Johns Hopkins with a peer-review process attached. It runs in economics departments, party platforms, public health agencies, activist movements, corporate boardrooms, and comment sections — anywhere a conclusion has been fixed in advance and the evidence has been assigned the job of agreeing with it.

Anywhere a claim has been made immune to disconfirmation, the machine is running. The vestments are optional. The mountain is optional. The knife is not.

## You are doing this. Stop.

I'm not writing this to explore a historical question. I'm writing it to warn you — and not about Christians, Muslims, or communists. About you.

You are running this program right now, in at least one part of your life. There is a field, a politics, a diagnosis, a person, or a self-image where you've already decided what's true and demoted the evidence to a defense attorney. You know which one. You felt it flicker somewhere above and moved past it.

Seeing the loop in someone else's head is easy, and worthless — it's the disease congratulating itself. Here's the actual test, one sentence: **name the thing that would prove you wrong, then go look.** If you can't name it, you're not a believer. You're a hostage.

Remember what the dating tells you: this wasn't handed down from a time before people knew better. It was written, deliberately, by people who chose it. Which means it was a decision.

Decisions can be reversed. Abraham should have said no. You still can.
